The focus of Dr. Winfree’s research at NASA Langley Research Center has been the development of nonintrusive measurement techniques for characterization of materials and structures. His research has involved development of terahertz, thermal, x-ray and ultrasonic techniques for characterization of the properties of and flaws in materials and structures. He has specialized in the development of computational techniques for the reduction of measurement data to meaningful indications of the integrity of materials and structures. Special assignment for Dr. Winfree have included the NDE technical lead for NDE element of NASA Airframe Structural Integrity Program, NDE lead for the NTSB investigation of the American Airlines 587 Airbus A300 accident and the NDE lead for PAL Ramp Foam Liberation In-flight Anomaly.
